Project Description

Project Scope

Soletanche Bachy Canada delivered the installation of a new dock wall at the Port of Oshawa, supporting the relocation of industrial port activities and the modernization of the waterfront infrastructure.

Working in a marine environment, the project involved removing sections of the existing dock structure and constructing a new combi-wall system anchored with tie-backs and integrated into a reinforced concrete cap. The upgraded dock face now supports the docking of larger vessels and improved cargo handling operations.

Notably, SB Canada had previously contributed to the original dock wall installation decades earlier through Bermingham, reflecting the company’s long-standing history at the Port of Oshawa.

Solution

The new dock structure was constructed using a combi-wall system of alternating pipe piles and sheet piles, designed to retain waterfront soils and provide long-term stability for port operations.

Because of the length of the wall, precise pile alignment was critical to avoid cumulative installation errors. SB Canada developed a custom installation template to guide the placement of piles and ensure accuracy along the dock face.

Construction was carried out from marine equipment under challenging site conditions, including heavy armour stone removal, marine excavation, and tie-back installation from barges.
