The Help Desk Specialist is the first point of contact and is responsible for fielding technical support requests from both local and remote users, ensuring courteous, timely and effective resolution of the issues. This includes receiving, prioritizing, documenting and actively resolving requests and escalating incidents when considered appropriate and necessary to maintain service level expectations.
This position will be based in our head office in Hamilton, ON.
- Respond to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, and electronically
- Deploy and maintain Windows 10 desktops and laptops
- Deploy and maintain printers and IP phones
- Resolve technical hardware and software issues by utilizing documented processes
- Log detailed descriptions of troubleshooting steps in ticketing system
- Identify situations requiring urgent attention, and escalate to next Level if unable to resolve
- Software and hardware install and uninstall requests, including configuration.
- Stay current with system information, changes, and updates
- Utilize excellent customer service skills and exceed customers’ expectations

Apprentice Mechanic
SB Canada is currently seeking an Apprentice Mechanic to join our organization. This position will be based in Calgary (central hub) and requires the flexibility to perform site visits throughout Western Canada from time to time.

This position will be based out of our regional office in Calgary, AB.
- Assist in repairs on various types of off-road equipment.
- Able to work with peers in both maintenance and operations.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and servicing of all owned and leased equipment in shop.
- Check equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to determine faults and malfunctions.
- Proficient troubleshooting skills – hydraulic, electrical & mechanical of all equipment and determine faults and extent of repair.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications.
- Assist with mobilization & de-mobilization of equipment for maintenance and repair.

HSE Coordinator Port Hope Site
The HSE Coordinator will report to the Senior Construction HSE Specialist and is responsible for the direct support of Project and site specific HSE management. This position will be based at our Port Hope site office, The successful candidate will be required to report to the Hamilton, ON Head office sporadically.
Travel may be necessary within the assigned region so a valid driver’s license is also required.
The HSE Coordinator will report to the Senior Construction HSE Specialist and is responsible for the direct support of Project and site specific HSE management. This position will be based at our Port Hope site office, The successful candidate will be required to report to the Hamilton, ON Head office sporadically.
As HSE Coordinator, the Employee is required to perform the following duties.
- Ensure compliance of SBC Health, Safety and Environmental Management System with all federal and provincial Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
- Maintain knowledge of relevant OH&S Acts, Regulations, industry best practices and other applicable legislation
- Accountable for the site level implementation and management of SB CANADA’s HSE program to ensure a safe working environment.
- Work closely with SBC’s Senior Construction Health and Safety Specialist to drive continuous improvements to SBC’s HSE Program.
- Display a commitment to SBC’s incident-free vision, values, and culture and lead corporate safety initiatives by positive example
- Provide guidance, direction, and support to all operational teams and Supervisory-level employees to ensure SBC’s Health, Safety and Environmental Management System is fully implemented and maintained;
- Manage relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and all operational teams to communicate the safety performance on site;
- Represent SB CANADA at meetings with clients, general contractors and association meetings
- Work directly with clients to identify and control site-specific hazards;
- Attend or chair site specific kick off or progress meetings as required;
- Conduct daily audits to Inspect, investigate, and assess hazards in the workplace to ensure compliance with relevant legislation;
- Monitor the performance of all subcontractors and ensure that all are prequalified through SBC’s program;
- Immediately intervene whenever at-risk behaviors or hazards are identified;
- Communicate audit findings with operational teams to ensure hazards are mitigated in a timely manner;
- Investigate all incidents, perform root cause analysis, recommend and aid in the implementation of corrective actions;
- Complete incident reports and relevant data input into Health and Safety Management Systems
- Communicate incidents, injuries and safety concerns to all operational and safety teams as required;
- Follow up on corrective actions from all incident investigations to ensure timely implementation;
- Administer all occupational injuries by reporting within required timeframes and by utilizing SBC’s modified work program
- Provide orientation to general staff, field staff and subcontractors as well as collection and compilation of training records;
- Organize, develop, deliver and implement Toolbox Talks, Safe Work Procedures, Job Hazard Analysis, emergency response plans, training seminars, and other workshops, and presentations on health, safety and environmental topics to operational teams including supervisors and employees;
- Prepare of contract-specific Hazard Assessments and safety execution plans in compliance with client requirements;
- Coordinate, collect and input of required safety documentation and perform other common administrative tasks associated with the role;
- Utilize Health and Safety Management Systems and applications daily to perform administrative tasks
- Collect, organize and submit weekly deliverables to clients;
- Monitor and assist in maintaining PPE inventory;
- Understand ethical behavior and safety practices, and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization.
- A minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in a full time HSE role that involved managing, planning and implementation of HSE requirements;
- Strong working knowledge of relevant OH&S Acts, Regulations, industry best practices and other applicable legislation;

Crane Operator

- Routine daily inspection of all parts of the crane for maintenance, safe operation and cleanliness; particular attention to straps and cables for signs of wear
- Knowledge of hand signals and load limits of the crane unit
- Knowledge of safe blocking on all sides for leveling and stabilization of the crane to prevent tipping and/or sliding
- Awareness of both overhead concerns and buried or concealed factors which may cause unsafe operation
- Ability to hoist rebar cages, beams, guides, etc… to support the drill rig operations
- Ability to assemble VTL (vertical travel leads), cranes, hammers, along with the ability to safely and efficiently operate hammers (diesel, hydraulic, vibro)
- Compliance to the SB Canada’s rigging safety procedures, along with safe work practices

- Routine daily inspection of all parts of the excavator/ loader for maintenance, safe operation and cleanliness; lubricate and refill equipment
- Notify supervisor and or repair shop of any required work to be done
- Knowledge of hand signals and load limits of the loader and excavator
- Awareness of both overhead concerns and buried or concealed factors which may cause unsafe operation
- Transport material from drilled location to stockpile, removed drilled spoils from CFA drill rig operations
- Load/ offload trucks,
- Experience operating front end loaders, complete with hydraulic grapple forks, bucket – Ability to change loader attachments
- Experience working with pile driving, moving large/ heavy pipe piles, drilled tooling, clearing snow, level/ flatten work area, site service work

Front End Person/Swamper

- Piling experience working on the ground in front of Drill Rigs (Soilmec, Bauer and Watson).
- Must have knowledge of cast in place (CIP) and continuous flight auger (CFA) piles, pouring concrete, set-up of drill rigs, installation of offset pins
- Equipment spotting for drill rig operators
- Must be fit for duty and ability to lift drill materials up to 50Lbs.
- Assist operator with equipment maintenance equipment inspections
- Operating a skid steer as required to remove tailing from drill piles, change auger tooling, move rebar cages, spot concrete trucks to drilled hole, change auger and belling teeth as required
- Assisting with concrete pours to pour concrete inside piles, vibrate concrete and move cage holders using skid steel, general site cleanup.

Yard Labourer
Reporting to the Logistics Manager, the Yard Labourer will support the Construction, Manufacturing and Yard operations in safely loading and unloading of large equipment from trucks. The Employee is required to perform the duties as outlined.

The position will be based out of the Yard and Manufacturing site in Hamilton, ON.
- Loading and unloading trucks
- Operating a 5 to 30 ton forklift
- Manage yard inventory
- Help with yard operations
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs/25kg
- Working in all weather conditions indoors and outdoors
- Ensure safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Must have grade 12 high school diploma,
- Need to be comfortable at working with heights. (aprox 20’)
- Experienced with 5 ton – 30 ton outdoor forklifts (All Terrain) and Bobcat skid steer
- Experienced with loading and unloading flatbeds (Outdoors)
- Working in front of mobile cranes.
- Rigging experience an asset
- Able to work well as a team, good organization skills, efficient in a fast paced environment.
